I keep seeing this one coupe showing up at work. And I'm absolutely fascinated with it. I know it shares bits with the SLK but how is the car overall? I like the price range that they are falling into and could probably get one for cheap in two years. Is maintenance a bitch because the Mercedes underpinnings? Are they reliable? This one by me is only !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! but it does have over 200,000 miles so.... please let me know!

Interesting design, but from what I understand as far as driving goes you can do much better.

Clarkson hated it, but I'd take that with a grain of salt. Meanwhile, I don't know much about them. Milky has one, get him in here, he'll know more than most of us.

someone has one and I think they like it. I could look back to see who it was but that would require effort and shit

I used to like they way they looked but now whenever I see one I think of a middle aged middle American telling his family about his new "sports car!"

It looks nice from the outside but you drive from the inside. I think you could find a much better driving car for the money; plenty also look just as good if not better.

He liked the convertible though. It made more sense to him, since it seemed good as a roadster but hopeless as a sporting coupe. It was more expensive than an RX-8, which was much better to drive and much more practical.

But as we can tell, this made it past 100k miles.

I did not like the ride quality. From what I remember it crunched over bumps and felt wooden. The engine and 722.6 5GTronic should be alright- if fluid changes were kept up. This must happen, especially on the trans.

The supercharger clutch on the SRT Crossfire likes to explode too but I dont think you'll have that issue here.

I thoroughly enjoy mine.

As far as maintenance goes oil changes are expensive ($90) but everything else seems very well priced, to my surprise too. All of the parts it has are shared with the more common MB cars, aka lots of options when it comes to fixing things. My water pump for example was $40, HVAC fan controller $30, etc.

I'd be weary of anything with 200k miles on it, but someone else here has a ML320(same engine) with 250k and he said people on the forums have 320's with over 400k on them. IMO though you'd be better off spending $7-8k on one with half the miles.

Also like somebody said the ride is rough, like you have to know that and want that before buying one. The turn off is Crossfire's pull 1g in corners thanks to stiff suspension and wide tires. Personally I like it but its not for everyone … . same goes for the styling.

Last but not least people give the car shit for not handling well, and I'm calling BS on that. Drive it down a curvy road and tell me its not fun. A Cayman steering is better, but have fun maintaining that, same goes for the RX8. I don't want to set aside $3k for a new rotary engine. And yea Miata ... everyone has one and I'm too hipster for that shit.

TLDR - I like driving it.

Im so glad you showed up! I knew someone had one but I was afraid they no longer were on Oppo!

Id never buy a used car with mileage that high to be honest; it was more or less showing that they were rather affordable and a decent one should be around $6500 in two years if im lucky.

the rough ride does concern me slightly. My isse is im more of a luxury kind of person. I like the feeling of fancier more loaded cars. I could never own something like a GT3 or the ZL1 camaro because I want options and features.

I drive a Civic now so im sure a lot of cars will handle better in the corners.

I like the retro styling but I also enjoy the Juke, Crosstour, Chevy HHR, Murano Crosscabriolet, Honda element, and a few other questionable cars.

Is the hatch practical at all? The opening at least seems very small. Can it haul anything?

Again im really not looking for a really good sports car here. I want something different.

Lets not forget that your headliner is falling apart, your heater only works occasionally, and your trunk space is limited to about a half gallon of milk (puns!!!) and a roll or two of tissue that you probably use to dry your eyes out when you have to replace an ignition switch.

I fixed the heater, "HVAC fan controller $30"!!

I did totally forget about the ignition …. should of mentioned that. They go out on all SLKs/Crossfires apparently. Also, according to our friend that had a Miata, my trunk is huge. Its all relative.

Firstly something I forgot to mention is the ignition. Its like the only thing you have to look out for when buying these cars and I didn't know that. My car had a sticky ignition from day 1 and didn't think anything of it, well $1200 later I regret not looking into it.

As for practicality its not great, but better than a Miata, lol.

Kinja'd!!!

Interior wise, I like it and it is from a Mercedes ….. but that mercedes interior is from '97. I don't know If I would call it "luxury". Although I do think the white or red interior really makes a lot nicer …. kind of wish I had more time to shop around and found one like that. My grey and black is rather boring, but thats personal preference.

But, we're the same in the way we "want something different." IMO it really stands out (for its price) and last night I had a cart boy at a grocery store ask me about the car. My ex even thought I bought the car new 2 years ago …. she wasn't that bright obviously.

I think you're right about the prices too, couple years from now nice examples will probably be $5-7k …. It'll be hard to pass one up for that little.

My father has ALWAYS loved it. He seriously always reminds me to look out for their prices or if there is one localy. I love the way they look, and always felt sad that its handling wasn't seen as good.

Id say its a cool option out of the ordinary.
